The Gospel Family of Christ
Krefeld, Germany Director: Angelika Rehaag
Origin: The Gospel Family of Christ was established in 1999 and is the smallest (30 singers) of seven gospel choirs under the direction of Angelika Rehaag. After forming five gospel choirs of approx. 80-100 members each and a children’s choir in various cities in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region, Ms. Rehaag felt the need for a “showcase” choir which would be mobile and could assist her with gospel workshops for choirs and choir leaders. Since its formation, the Gospel Family of Christ has performed in many parts of Germany in concert with a variety of international guest artists and has been instrumental in presenting contemporary Black Gospel music to German audiences. In the Rhine-Ruhr region, the quality of the choir’s performances is well-known through its musical accompaniment in worship services, benefit concerts, workshops, and gospel festival concerts. The choir considers its musical work primarily as a Christian testimony and presents gospel music as an instance for worship rather than entertainment. In Germany, gospel music is instrumental in opening a door to faith for a secular society in which the state churches have a rapidly declining influence.
Since its establishment, the Gospel Family of Christ: has performed in concert with: has participated in choir tours in 2001 & 2003 to NewYork, Cleveland, Oh., and Washington, D.C.
has annually played a supportive role in the Krefelder Gospel Musik Festival
in August, 2005, performed in the Rhein Energie Stadium at the “Catholic World Youth Conference” in Cologne, Germany. More informatin: www.gospel-family.de The choir is accompanied by a pianist, drummer, and bass player, all of whom are graduates of the Folkwang Music Institute, Essen, Germany.
